Bendu and Zambi

A more recent fixation/special interest/whatever the fuck you'd like to call it of mine is Dave and Bambi, a fandom stemming from a billion different sources of media, be it : Baldi Mods, FNF mods, OCs, etc., but we are talking about two characters from the fan-mod Golden Apple Edition, as that is what is important right now.

Bendu and Zambi.

Bendu and Zambi are two characters who are Bambisonas, creatures stemming from Bambi. Bendu is the yellow one, pictured on the far left, and Zambi is the blue one, pictured to the right of him.

Bendu was my original favorite. I saw him the day the first showcase came out, and was instantly intrigued, even if all he did in that build was sing a funny (okay) song. His design is funny to me. A funny keyboard playing cat? Where have I seen this before...

As I read his trivia page on the official wiki, way back in January of 2022, I was fascinated by the fact he might KNOW of the fourth wall to his world. I chittered about this possibility to my boyfriend, and joked about how he might know things he shouldn't. I don't know if that is still the case though.

I quickly developed a fixation on him, not just a favorite character anymore. I watched all the original stuff his creator, Danwiki (bless his soul, nobody knows where he is after he deactivated all, and I mean ALL, his social media.) created of him. He played a song with a small version of Bandu (another Bambisona, the main one from his source mod.) He had funny faces in his videos too.

I frequently drew him with Bandu, before he became the canon character I drew most, both together with him, and alone. I decided he could make flipnote faces, based on how he made funny faces in his debut video.

I watched as, to my dismay, he became shipping fodder within the fandom, for reasons I know not of, nor why. I was guilty of this at first, but not anymore. I am over a year Benban clean. I watched as he got almost no solo content anymore. It made me a bit sad, so I drew him more on his own, even if I didn't always post it.

A new version of his song came out. It had many memes in it. I noted that he enjoys memes, due to this song being his and containing them, and drew him doing funny memey things.

It was added to his page that he was very very obnoxious, very very stupid, not knowing his own age, and that's about it. Then there was nothing.

Things were stagnant when it came to new and cool Bendu content, before I found out about Zambi.

Zambi was another OC, not ingame yet though, upcoming. He was confirmed to be Bendu's one and only friend. What? He had no friends? But he was seen with that small variation of Bandu.. Nevertheless, Bendu was confirmed to be hated by almost everybody, especially Ringi (yet another Bambisona), due to him being viewed as incredibly annoying. I find a sense of kinship with Bendu in this way, being also viewed as an annoying person, especially in my childhood, to the point I had not many friends.

It turned out, that Zambi was the only one who had given him a chance. I thought it was endearing that he was his only friend. I latched onto their relationship and think it is very cute, to this day.

Zambi on his own enjoys corndogs, (maybe hotdogs, never was confirmed), cooking, and being nice to people, unlike his creator/father/mother, Expunged (Yet ANOTHER Bambisona, Bandu's brother). He also has a crush on Bamberly (YET a nother Bambisona, though not from GAPPLE or base mod.)

Zambi also is disabled, with only a single hand, and a prosthetic eye (the star on his face).

Overrall, I really enjoy the two of them, both alone and together. I think they are breasties. Even though that's canon, that is, the fact that they're best friends.

More recently, it was confirmed that Bendu has friends outside of Zambi, that being Bandu and Cameo. Bandu is Bendu's roommate/housemate in a spinoff game to GAPPLE, CRIDAB/DFRPG, and in another spinoff, Phobic Funkin (don't ask about the name), Cameo, Bandu's boyfriend, is Bendu's friend, and Bendu, Cameo, and Bandu are all in a band together. I think that means they are friends to an extent, even if they aren't as close as Zambi and Bendu are canonically.

I also like to think the four of them (Zambi included, obviously) frolick around together, and have little outings together.

They (Bendu and Zambi) are my favorite characters in this little game, and I think it'll be like that for a long, long time.

• was created by Expunged, intended to be a killing machine, but is only the intended way when angry
• has a crush on Bamberly, a taken woman
• is vaguely shy despite being somewhat extroverted
• likes to cook, and owns his own kitchen
• does NOT have an origin form
• can summon corndogs infinitely
• is a character in a MUGEN mod, and can summon Bendu to fight for him
