pokemon day ramble + theorizing

so.

legends Z-A, huh

i have LOTS of thoughts on this.

for starters (hehe), my partner and i are pretty sure we (we as in us, and also general we) know the starters of this game!

way back in august, the pokemon company revealed that starters were returning to scarlet and violet in the form of the indigo disk

but what caught my eye was the fact three pokemon of the same type were paired with the hisuian starters

cyndaquil was paired with torchic, rowlet was paired with snivy, and oshawott was paired with piplup

this couldve meant nothing

until today.

when legends Z-A, a KALOS game, was revealed

see, theres something im not telling you about all the starters they paired with the hisuian ones, something they share in common

THEY ALL HAVE TIES TO FRANCE IN SOME WAY.

Snivy's evolutionary line is based on the Rose of Versailles, a manga that takes place in France. Serperior in particular is based on King Louis XIV, as well. not to mention the fleur-de-lis, a FRENCH insiginia on serperior's chest.

Torchic's theming is the weakest link, with nothing really set as a for-sure design origin. however. Blaziken was the only pokemon to receive a mega and not be in the kalos pokedex. and you can argue that as a rooster, it has ties to the Gallic roosters, yet another insiginia of France.

and finally, and most obviously, Empoleon is based on Napoleon Bonaparte, a FRENCH emperor. it's in its name!

another theory i have is that the game will deal with time travel in some way, based on the trailer switching blueprint styles fairly frequently.

and also the fact its Z-A. Z to A. we are going back in time.

i also think zygarde will be Angry. it wont be happy about us working on lumiose city and urbanizing it, and may try to stop us by sending us back in time, even? (im not sure if it can do that but maybe it can)

i also think this game will take place mostly in the 1800s, except at the beginning, similar to legends arceus, based on the fact thats when the real life rennovation of paris happened, which is obviously what lumiose city is based on. and keeping in that time period would be pretty consistent, no?

BUUUUT, i can also see it as a more recent time, as a future legends game. but i think the argument for the 1800s is holding more water.

and finally. i think we will see megas for serperior, empoleon, and flygon. the first two being the starters, to match blaziken, and flygon because it was shunted before.

i dont think we will see kalosian forms of the starters, just megas.

overrall, im pretty excited for the game and all the news it will have about it. i know i really really wanted unova remakes, but i am perfectly fine with this. its very exciting!
