WHICH POKECLONE SHOULD I PLAY?
There have been a few Roblox Pokemon-likes, Poke-clones, Mon games, Catch-em-alls, whatever you call them, over the years on Roblox. And by a few, I mean there are three currently released ones, though some others are in development.
How ever can I choose one to play? You may ask. And I am here to help you! By comparing and contrasting them!
The current options to play are Loomian Legacy, Doodle World, or Tales of Tanorio.
Release Date | Loomian Legacy is the oldest PokeClone on Roblox, dating back to 2019. | Doodle World is the second oldest, dating to 2022. That is much younger than LL, but it caught up very quickly. | Tales of Tanorio is very new. It released this month, March 2024, though it was in development for 3 years. |
---|---|---|---|
Amount of Content | Loomian Legacy has 4 gyms, and a story to go with it. There is shiny-hunting to be done after the story, and sometimes content and holiday events as well. You can also work on your mastery to unlock Gammas or just get rewards. | Doodle World has 4 gyms, despite being much newer than Loomian, and a fifth gym on the way. It has so much to be done in the way of shiny-hunting, more on that later, and also has seasonal events like LL. There is a mastery similar to LL, and you can unlock 6 star shinies with this, as well as customizable titles and name colors. | Tales of Tanorio loses a point here, due to being so incredibly new. It only has two gyms. However, there is at least a day's worth of content to play. And you can shiny-hunt afterward. |
Variety of New 'Mons, not including skins | Loomian Legacy has 270 Loomians at the moment. It will eventually add more, as will all of these games. | Doodle World has the most of all these games, with a whopping 386 Doodles currently obtainable in varying ways, though not all of them are in the wild due to the roulette system. | There is 121 revealed Tanorians in Tales of Tanorio, though more will be revealed as the game progresses. |
Amount of Types and Accessibility of Them | There are 17 types in Loomian Legacy, mostly stemming from actual Pokemon, though Dragon and Rock are combined into a single type. | There are a whopping 20 types in Doodle World, and the type matchups are very different from Pokemon, with a good few new types. However, there is a type-chart built into the game that is viewable at any type. | There is also 20 types in Tales of Tanorio, though the only two unique to it are Light and Cosmic. There is no way to view the matchups without the wiki. | >
Creature Designs | Loomian Legacy is very strong in its creature design, though some redesigns and new designs I've found are too cutesy for me. Older models sometimes get remodelled. | Doodle World has a great variety of creatures, and as there is infinite customizing to be done with the skin feature, due to each Doodle getting at least a single skin, there is sure to be something you like! Doodles and skins are also fansumbitted for the most part, so hypothetically, you could get your OWN Doodle or skin in Doodle World! (Provided the dev likes your idea) | Tales of Tanorio's designs are very similar to LL's, with a great many being fanmade Loomians. They also take submissions for Tanorians, though not as frequently as DW does. |
Customization of Creatures | Loomian Legacy is the origin of customization in Pokeclones, with them starting the trend with Gamma gleams, which are rarer and harder to obtain versions of their normal shiny equivalent. However, besides that, there isn't much, besides the occasional reskin come a holiday. | Doodle World has so, so much, in the way of customization. To start off, there are tints, which can change the color of your Doodle entirely, as if you put a filter over it. There is also skins, and each and every Doodle gets at least one skin, so you can make your Doodle look different than its base form. Misprints are the equivalent of shinies, and as of March 2024, there is a "shinier shiny" variation called Uniques. Skins are constantly being added with each and every update, so there is an near-infinite number of ways your Doodle can look! | Tales of Tanorio just has regular shinies, called shinies. |
Ease of Shiny-Hunting | Loomian Legacy basically locks shiny-hunting behind a Robux (in-game currency, purchased with real MOOLAH) fee. Without a boost token, you have an nigh-impossible chance to get a shiny. And a boost token costs an arm and a leg, not to mention you aren't guranteed anything. Not to mention, to even get a REGULAR, not GAMMA, shiny starter, it costs an ungodly amount of Robux, because they locked starters behind a Robux paywall. | Doodle World is easy to hunt in, be it for skins, or for misprints. It doesn't cost anything to hunt via chaining, though, of course you can buy a shiny-charm for about $4 USD, to boost your odds in general. Chaining is your best bet to get a shiny, as your odds are even stated in the game itself! However, there are other methods if chaining isn't your style, being the roulette, locked behind gems, which you generously get 200 each day, or the in-game seasonal events, which always add a new method to shiny-hunt, though time-limited for the length of the event. | Tales of Tanorio also has chaining, but we do not know the odds, nor the odds for even a full-odds shiny. Shiny-hunting at the moment in ToT is often fruitless like in LL. |
EV training | It is incredibly obnoxious to EV train in Loomian Legacy. Though, I supppose it is in any Pokemon game pre-Bottle Caps. | Doodle World doesn't have EV's. It has stars, which raise your stats based on the amount of stars you have. Misprints are guranteed at least 4 stars, but the maximum is 6. You can unlock 6 stars by completing a Doodle evolution line's mastery. Otherwise, you're locked at 5. Unless a buddy gives you a 6 star. | Tales of Tanorio also has EV training just like Loomian Legacy, though arguably Worse. I don't EV train, but other people have said it is incredibly painful to EV train in. |
Frequency of Updates | Loomian Legacy updates once every blue moon. The devs often are inaccurate or just plain lying about when an update will come. | Doodle World updates every week, though often with minor updates just adding some skins. However, major updates are much more frequent than LL's. | Tales of Tanorio released last week. We do not know how often it will update. However, the devs lied about the game being ready 2 months ago, when it really wasn't even close, and even released it full of bugs this month regardless. |
How Good Does the Game Look | Loomian Legacy, despite having 3D models for the Loomians, is kind of an ugly game. It is not a pretty enviroment. The fact they use weird, Rthro-esque models for the trainers is bad looking as well, and often clashes with how your avatar looks in it. | Doodle World uses drawn sprites for the creatures, hence the name Doodles. However, this does not limit how good the game looks. As the line-art is publically avaliable, anyone can submit a edit of it as a skin. Awakened Doodles, Doodle World's take on Mega Evolution, also are fully drawn pieces. The enviroment of the game is minimal, though still manages to look very nice. The trainers in this game are Robloxians, and not just the blocky type. There are varying packages of Robloxians, not just the basic R15 blocky build. It meshes very well with your avatar. | Tales of Tanorio has a stellar enviroment, and very good 3D models, I would even say they are better than LL's. The towns and routes all look very nice, though on a low-end PC, it could lag insanely bad. The trainers in this world are blocky Robloxians, though all of them are human, and they have dynamic faces, which looks fairly strange however. |
Soundtrack | Loomian Legacy has an entirely original soundtrack. A lot of the songs are very nice to listen to. | Doodle World does not have an original soundtrack made for it. It uses music the developer paid for, and it is rather fitting, but sometimes I feel it could benefit from an actual original score. | Tales of Tanorio has another entirely original soundtrack. However, where it triumphs Loomian Legacy, is it has a fully voiced theme song, taking inspiration from the Pokemon anime songs. I also am not sure where else to put this, but the game has an option for fully voice-acted dialogue, which I personally am not a fan of. However, it has put a lot of effort in sounding good. |
Ultimately, there is no Perfect Roblox Poke-clone that checks all the boxes, but I am sure one of these will strike enough of your fancy to be the one for you!
